Lonely the Road I Trod

They don’t look like me. They don’t dress like me. They certainly don’t act like me. We aren’t the same age or from the same place. We don’t eat the same foods, we don’t listen to the same music, and we aren’t interested in the same things. I’m all alone, living this life which presumably God called me into. I don’t see God. I can’t sense Him. I’m not even sure what I should be doing. What is my role? What is expected of me? And on… and on… and on.

Ever been there? In a place of loneliness where you are surrounded by vast differences and little familiarities. A desert place, where you feel lonely even in a group? 🤚🏾

If you have, you probably are quite familiar with the above sentiments. And if you haven’t, chances are, you will one day.

We all will experience loneliness. We all will experience pain, loss, longing, and defeat.

In those moments, while in that place, search for God. Seek Him. Chase after Him. Let Him fulfill your longing. Let Him transcend your loneliness. Allow His perfect will to be made manifest. Allow Him to propel you towards destiny.

Consider these verses:

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” Jeremiah‬ ‭29:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’” Jeremiah‬ ‭33:3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God often will allow you to journey to an unfamiliar place. There, in the absence of rituals, routines, business, and your agenda, He can garnish your undivided attention. Because sometimes we forget.  Sometimes we lose focus because our vision is obscure.

There, He can gently remind you that He is the only person you truly can depend on.  He allows us to experience such a season to nudge us towards growth and change.

Yet we cannot deny our thoughts and feelings. However, with this recognition, is the realization that our thoughts can consume us. We may even resort to isolation, thinking it is better to sit alone rather than engage others in our messiness. But when we allow our thoughts and feelings to rule, we run the risk of losing sight of our calling.

Friend, remember there is a God ordained assignment for your life…for each of our lives.

Let us instead encourage each other with Scripture.

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” Colossians‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25 NLT

In those seasons of loneliness, while I may see a world of differences around me, I remain confident that God led me to this place.

I am uncertain why. But I know He has worked it out. He has walked out every step I will take. He knows where I am on the Journey. He knows where I struggle. He knows where I miss the mark. So I lean closer and closer to Jesus. Because it is only through His strength that I can survive to take another step.

Do you need to lean closer into Jesus? He is able to hold you, strengthen you, and give you peace in the midst of all your circumstances.

Lord thank you for the opportunity to draw near to you. Thank you for your strength to continue running this race with grace and peace. I humble myself before you. In Jesus’s name I pray, Amen.
