Topic: Surrender
God’s Has This All Figured Out!

It was one of those days. I was ready to resign my position as mother for the remainder of the day. By the end of the three hours I was exhausted and desired to check out for an extended period of time. I knew I couldn’t keep doing life this way. I sat in my car and started to reconsider our prospects of continuing homeschooling. God thankfully knew where I was. He met me in that parking lot and began nudging me closer and closer to a place of trust and total surrender.

My husband and I did not always plan to homeschool our children. Serving in my self-designed role as family planner, I envisioned my role on the Parent-Teacher Association, as a chaperone on school trips, and shuttling children to after-school activities, even before our first child was born. These of course were my plans. They were plans for which I did not prayerfully seek the heart of God. The Sovereign and merciful God never withdrew His love for me. He instead, continued to work on this Mama’s heart, on my journey to surrender. He orchestrated situations where I moved closer and closer to surrender. Reflecting on my parking lot experience, that faithful day where I was ready to throw my hands in the air and give up on homeschooling, I now see that God allowed me to arrive at a place of desperation. It was in that place where I was ready and open to try His plan of education for my children. I finally arrived at a place of surrender.

It’s your life. You can choose to live it anyhow. How exciting it is to surrender your life to Jesus. If you decided to follow Him take a look around. Are you on a continuous mission to help God orchestrate your life? Perhaps this is your moment. Your time to stop trying to control, fix, help, and mitigate it all. Surrender your all. Surrender your life completely to Him. Surrender your children, their education, and the intricate details of their future to the Sovereign God. You will enjoy greater peace and joy when you surrender.

Remember God is sovereign. He does not make mistakes. Even before you could figure out what to cook for dinner today, He already worked out your tomorrow before you were even conceived by your Mama and your Daddy.

So hold tight. Don’t let your today be an over generalization of your tomorrow, your next year, or the rest of your life. Neither you nor I unfortunately possess a time machine to go check on future you or future me 😉. We however, do have an omniscient God who can handle all of our concerns if we give Him free reign in our lives.

One of my favorite hymns is I Surrender All. It is a hymn I heard and casually sang countless times as a child. The message of this song now penetrates my heart immensely. I pray that the message of surrendering your everything, (your life, your children, your spouse), will take hold in your heart and mind today.

Song:
I Surrender All
Judson W. Van DeVenter, 1896

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!
